Wood and vinyl are the two most common fences we install around Charlotte, and both can make an excellent privacy fence. They age differently, though, and that difference should guide the choice.
Pressure-treated wood costs less up front and looks warm and natural. It can be stained any color and repaired one board at a time. The trade-off is upkeep: in our humid climate, wood should be cleaned and sealed or stained every few years to keep it from graying, warping, and softening at the bottom.
Vinyl costs more to install but needs very little maintenance. It doesn't rot, peel, or need staining, and an occasional rinse keeps it clean. It also looks the same in year ten as it did in year one, which some homeowners love and others find too uniform.
Whichever material you choose, the posts matter most. Fences fail at the posts first, so we set them deep and straight, and we plan gates carefully so they swing and latch properly for years.
If you're deciding between the two, we'll walk your property line, talk through both options, and give you a written estimate for each so you can compare.
